Wigs FAQ

Wigs from Coscraft

Measurement: all lengths given are approximate measurements from the top of the wig.

All our wigs are adjustable to fit any size head.

Fibres: the wigs we sell here at Coscraft are made of either Kanekalon or heat-resistant fibres.

Kanekalon

Also known as "Kanecaron", Kanekalon is a proprietary product made by the Japanese company Kaneka Corporation. A favourite amongst costumers and hobbyists, the fibres are soft, hold vibrant colours and look and feel similar to human hair.

Kanekalon can withstand mild heat, so the odd burst from a hairdryer won't damage the wig. Heated styling tools are not recommended, however. On the plus side, Kanekalon wigs are highly styleable.

Heat-Resistant Fibre

As the name suggests, wigs made using these fibres are more heat-resistant - they can be styled using heated tools such as straightening irons, curling tongs and hairdryers. But be sensible, style it like you would human hair and don't go overboard with the heat!

Heat-resistant fibres are less likely to frizz or tangle, so for our longer wigs we use these fibres wherever possible. The downside is that they need more patience and hair product to style. But we think that's better than spending hours and hours detangling it.

Wig Care

Brushing: if there are tangles, use a wig spray and first work on the bigger knots using your fingers. Then, using a wig brush or comb, work in small sections, starting from the end and gradually working towards the top. Don't pull too hard or the fibres might get damaged. If the wig is curly, brush each curl section individually so that you don't unravel the curls.

Storage: to store your wig, put it on a wig stand/wig head or put the hair net over it and put it back in the polythene bag. Keep your wig away from sunlight.

Cleaning: mix wig shampoo and cold water in a basin/tub and wash the wig very gently without rubbing the fibres. Rinse with cold water thoroughly. Dab dry with a towel - don't rub! Finally, let your wig air-dry, preferably on a wig stand. If you're in a hurry, use a hairdryer on a "cool" setting.

Don't use shampoo and conditioner for human hair on wigs. Even the mildest ones might ruin synthetic fibres.
